A youth-led volunteer program bringing comfort, connection and a reason to smile to seniors, especially those living in long-term care.

What’s it all about?

P.S. I 💗  You, a Living Jewishly’s volunteer action project, is the creation of Aryelle Sigulim, a now 15-year-old member of our community.

This is how Aryelle describes P.S. I 💗 You:

The Idea came to me when I started writing my Bubby and Nana as a way to keep in touch with them during the Pandemic. Some of their friends found out and asked if I could write to them too! One of the things I learned from writing my letters is that all of us need someone. By that I mean someone to give us kindness, caring and love. Until I received my first handwritten letter back, I never thought I could make a difference in peoples lives. The people who have received my letters are telling me that they love getting them. So I am going to keep writing because I hope that even after the Pandemic,
P.S. I
💗 You can continue to bring smiles to people’s faces.

New and Exciting This Year!

In order to keep the program fresh and in response to feedback we received from participating seniors and their friends, the P.S. I 💗  You program is expanding to include 7 interactive, in person 1-2 hour social events with the seniors at the Kensington Place, retirement residence.

Who is eligible to participate?

P.S. I 💗 You welcomes enrolled students from grades 6– 12 into its volunteer family. Please note: The Ministry of Education stipulates that students can begin accumulating their 40-hour community service hours requirement after they have completed grade 8. Click here for more details.

How do students get their stationary kit?

Once a student has registered and receives a confirmation email, they will be notified of a stationary pack pick up location. These locations will be in participating schools and community centres, and of course pick up will adhere to the strictest of Covid-19 safety rules.

What should students write about?

P.S. I 💗 You stationary kits include writing paper and envelopes for the students and their pen pal partners, stamps, and topic suggestions for students. Once a student has registered they will have access to a resource center where they will find sample letters for inspiration.

How many community service hours will students earn?

The program begins in September 2022
Letter writing students will earn 18 service hours.
Event participating students will earn 18 service hours.
Students can register to participate in both programs and as long as they fulfill the requirements, they will earn 36 service hours.
