The Art of Living Jewishly welcomes Elan Gerzon and the Ghazala Collective, a unique cross-cultural collective reviving the art of Bedouin, Muslim, Judaic and Middle Eastern traditional weaving based in the Negev/ An-Naqab Desert. Not only is their hand-crafted and ethically-made textile work gorgeous, but their ethos tells a story – not a story of the land belonging to a particular people – rather of peoples belonging to the land. Their work explores this question, sharing the art of the ground loom, making prayer rugs, bimah coverings, altar tops, and more. This collective builds collaborative relationships between Israelis, Bedouin, Jews, Muslims, and Christians, as they bring back to life an ancient tradition. Their vision is to inspire a global community to participate in the revival of natural Middle Eastern weaving cultures, and establish the structure necessary to sustain the livelihood of Ghazala’s artisans through an initiative which creates stories of change that spark unity and understanding around the world.
