I Want It To Mean Something: Part 1

by | Nov 25, 2020 | Podcast

What does ‌introspection mean to you?

How do you use self reflection as a tool when moving forward in your life?

The first of a three-part Living Jewishly: Conversations series, this episode features a discussion between Oren, Bella, and Shachar, three youths interested in finding their own meaning in the holiest of days.

Rosh Hashanah is a special and powerful time of the year, marking both a beginning and a reason to look behind us.

While we may strive to live as close to perfectly as possible, we will all find our own speed bumps, learning moments, and regrets when looking back on our past year. Refusing to acknowledge these transgressions or human mistakes does not serve us, but can hold us back from necessary growth.

While looking back may not always be the most comfortable experience, the goal should be to find something of value to bring with you on your journey forward; a lesson that will guide you in showing up more gracefully, compassionately, and authentically in the future.

In a tumultuous year, how do we reconcile with things like a pandemic, serious economic challenges, and civil unrest? Where do we locate the lessons and even the positive effects in these experiences?

Together, Oren, Bella, and Shachar explore the dual meanings of self reflection and celebration, find the hidden blessings of 2020, and affirm the importance of self care.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How self reflection and celebration can be two sides of the same coin
  • The power of positivity and gratitude and how to wield it in your life
  • A question and answer game you can play along with to help prompt self reflection around self care

“It’s very empowering to know that you can control your life in a lot of ways, and really do the things that are important for you.”

— Shachar
